Loara High School recently hosted its annual Fall Blood Drive, a meaningful event organized by ASB members Andrew Vergara and GeneAshley Recinto. With the support of the University of California, Irvine (UCI), the drive brought together students, parents, and faculty, all united by their desire to make a difference.
The drive proved to be a tremendous success, as participants were not only contributing to a good cause but also helping to save lives. For this inaugural event, Loara High School met its target number of donors, a fantastic accomplishment that sets the tone for the year ahead.
This blood drive is just the beginning. Loara has scheduled additional drives throughout the school year, with the hope that even more students, parents, and faculty will be inspired to get involved and support this lifesaving effort. By hosting these annual events, the school aims to foster a culture of giving and encourage participation from those eager to make a positive impact. We have partnered with UCI for years, mainly because they use the blood they receive and do not sell it off for profit, it is either used directly or as platelets.
With 90 people signing up to donate, the drive had a significant impact on patients in need. Loara High School looks forward to the upcoming blood drives, hoping that even more people will recognize the profound difference they can make—whether they know the recipients of their donations or not.
Why is Donating Blood So Important? Here are Five Key Reasons:
1. Saves Lives: A single blood donation can save up to three lives, making a direct impact on people in need of urgent care.
2. Supports Hospitals in Emergencies: Blood is often in short supply during crises, and regular donations ensure hospitals have the resources they need.
3. Assists Patients with Chronic Illnesses: Many individuals with cancer, sickle cell disease, and other conditions rely on blood transfusions to maintain their health.
4. Encourages Community Involvement: Blood drives bring communities together, fostering compassion and responsibility toward others.
5. Improves the Health of Donors: Studies show that regular blood donation can help maintain balanced iron levels and promote overall cardiovascular health.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Loara’s first blood drive this year, and we hope to see even more of you at future events!
