Red ribbons hung from every pole and tree as Loara’s Friday Night Live (FNL) Club hosted Red Ribbon Week this October, celebrating the importance of living drug-free! The week featured themed dress-up days, two exciting lunch activities, and plenty of Saxon spirit.
The celebration kicked off on Monday, October 27, with students wearing bright colors to represent a bright future without drugs. On Tuesday, October 28, Saxons dressed in red and participated in a fun lunchtime activity where they painted their hands red and pledged to stay drug-free. Wednesday, October 29, was Pajama Day, reminding students to “dream of a bright future,” followed by Thursday, October 30, when students dressed like senior citizens to symbolize living a long, healthy life. The week wrapped up on Friday, October 31, as students wore creative Halloween costumes to “scare off drugs.” ASB joined the celebration by hosting a Costume Contest that showcased the amazing outfits worn by our spirited Saxons.
FNL also hosted two engaging lunchtime activities during the week. On Tuesday, students signed the pledge to stay drug-free by stamping their painted handprints on a large poster, then spun a prize wheel to win fun items like bracelets, pens, squishies, bags, and water bottles. On Thursday, students and staff competed in a lively team competition between Team Medina and Team Chikawaa, which included three main games. The first, a cup-stacking challenge, went to Team Chikawaa. The second, a back-drawing guessing game, was won by Team Medina. With the score tied, the final round of rock-paper-scissors determined the winner—Team Chikawaa, who took home a prize bundle filled with goodies!
Overall, this year’s Red Ribbon Week was a huge success. Many Saxons pledged to live drug-free and showed their support for FNL’s mission. Let’s keep the spirit alive and make next year’s celebration even bigger and better!
